Jonathan F. Hughes, a 2024 graduate of Cumberland School of Law in Birmingham, Alabama, focuses his practice on auto litigation and construction defect litigation. While at Cumberland, Jonathan interned for two federal district judges: Honorable Judge R. David Proctor and the Honorable Judge Madeline H. Haikala. Jonathan was an Associate Editor of the Cumberland Law Review. His article, “Bivens Liability Further Limited as U.S. Border Patrol Officer Accused of First and Fourth Amendment Violations,” was published by the Cumberland Law Review in spring 2024. His case survey, “Rodriguez v. Burnside: Prisoner’s First Amendment Rights Trumped by Prison Safety Policies,” may be found on the Cumberland Law Review’s website. Jonathan served Cumberland’s legal writing program as a Caruthers Fellow legal writing tutor. Jonathan was also a recipient the Cumberland’s Albert L. Shumaker Dean’s Merit Scholarship. While in undergrad at the University of Georgia, Jonathan worked on congressional and gubernatorial campaigns across his home state of Georgia. In his free time, Jonathan enjoys catching live shows at the Vinyl Music Hall, playing tennis, fishing, and cheering on his Georgia Bulldogs from afar.
